Your community has two front doors: its website and the Mateflow app for iPhone and Android. Members can do almost everything in both. The biggest difference is for owners and admins: community-wide settings and the admin console (dashboard) are only on the web.
Who this applies to: Everyone: members, moderators, admins, and owners. · Where: Web, iOS app, and Android app. · Plan: Not plan-dependent. Whether members can pay inside the iPhone app depends on how the community's subscriptions are set up.
What's only on the web
- The admin console (Admin Dashboard, at
/admin): members, access groups, billing, monetization, content, moderation queues, analytics, branding, and all other community-wide settings. The app has no admin console, so owners, admins, and moderators need a browser for these. - Approving requests to join the community: Admin → Members → Join Requests.
- Managing a Course Space: course settings, curriculum, students, and publishing. See Create a course.
- Choosing which access groups unlock a space, and its price. The app shows these settings but doesn't let you change them.
- Attaching documents to a post, and rescheduling a scheduled post.
- Organization sign-in (SAML single sign-on): the app asks you to sign in on the web.
- Editing custom profile fields. The app edits only the basics: Display name, Headline, Bio, Location, avatar, and cover.
What you can do in both the app and on the web
- Posting, with photos, videos, GIFs, polls, audio files, and voice messages. Also drafts and scheduling. See Create a post: text, media, polls, audio, and files.
- Writing articles in Article Spaces.
- Comments, reactions, reposts, and quotes.
- Direct messages and group chats.
- Events and live rooms.
- Courses as a learner.
- The AI assistant.
- The member center.
- Notification preferences.
- Exporting your data or deleting your account.
Space management: space admins and moderators can manage a space in the app. Open the space, tap ⋯, and tap Manage space. It has the same sections as the web, including:
- Basics & branding
- Layout & display
- Features
- Access & permissions
- Members
- Join requests (approving requests to join a space)
- Topics and Collections
- Review queue and Moderation rules
Space moderators see fewer sections than space admins. Owners and admins can also create spaces in the app, except Course Spaces.
What's only in the app
- Push notifications on your phone. Mateflow doesn't send browser push notifications. See Turn on push notifications on your phone.
- App lock: Settings and privacy → Appearance → App lock requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your fingerprint to open the app. See Lock the app with Face ID or fingerprint.
- Join by QR code: on the sign-up screen, Scan a QR code reads a QR code that holds an invitation link.
- Camera: Take a photo in the post composer takes a photo or video without leaving the app.
Threaded replies look different in the app
In threaded view, replies can nest to any depth on both. The web indents replies up to four levels. The app indents two levels, then lines up deeper replies at the second level with Replying to and the person's handle. See Comments, reactions, and reply settings.
Paying for a membership in the app
- iPhone and iPad: in-app purchases aren't available. Prices and purchase buttons don't appear in the app, and codes can't be redeemed there. Members buy on the web; memberships, spaces, and courses they buy there work in the app too. In a community that's paid to join, sign-up in the app shows "Sign-up for this community isn't available in the app."
- Android: subscriptions go through Stripe checkout, the same as on the web.
See Manage your membership and payments.
The app is signed in to one community at a time
On the web, each community has its own address, so you can open several in different tabs. The app has no community switcher. To move to another community, tap the menu (☰), tap Log out, and sign in to the other community. See Sign in to your community in the app.
