Global Communication shows a message across your whole community: a banner at the top of every page, or a pop-up (modal) that members must acknowledge. Use it for a sitewide announcement bar, a maintenance notice, or an important update. Unlike a broadcast, nothing is sent: members see the message while they browse.
Who can do this: Community owners and admins. · Where: Set up on the web, in the admin console. Banners and pop-ups appear in the community on the web; the Mateflow app doesn't show them. · Plan: Available on every platform plan.
Create a site-wide announcement banner
- Go to Admin → Marketing → Global Communication and open the Global Banner tab.
- Enter the Announcement Text.
- Optionally add an Action Link (Optional): a path in your community, such as
/changelog, or a full web address. Members see it as a Learn More link after the text. - Choose a Visual Theme: Primary Solid, Blue (Info), Orange (Warning), or Green (Success).
- Choose whether members can close it with Allow users to dismiss the banner, and set the Reappear frequency (see below).
- Optionally set a schedule and an audience.
- Turn on the Active switch and click Save Settings.
Live Preview shows the banner as members will see it. The banner appears above the content on every page of the community, but not in the admin console.
Create a pop-up modal
The pop-up (Interception Modal) appears when members next load a page, for example for a critical update or updated terms.
- On the Popup Modal tab, enter a Modal Title and the Modal Content. The content supports Markdown, such as links and bold text.
- Set the Dismiss Button Text. The default is "I Accept".
- Choose the Display frequency: Only the first time or Once per session.
- Optionally set a schedule and an audience.
- Turn on Active and click Save Settings.
Click Preview to see the pop-up exactly as members will. The pop-up has no close (✕) button. Closing it in any way, including pressing Esc, counts the same as clicking the dismiss button.
Each community has one banner and one pop-up. They're separate, so you can show both at once. To show a new message, edit the existing one. Save Settings saves both tabs if both have changes.
Choose who sees a banner or pop-up
Open Target Audience on either tab:
- Send to: All members, Verified email only, or Active members, with Active Within for active members. For banners and pop-ups, Verified email only matches members who have a verification badge.
- Spaces: limit it to members of the selected spaces.
- Access groups: limit it to members in the selected access groups.
The recipient count estimates how many members match. Signed-out visitors see the message only when Send to is All members and no spaces or access groups are selected. Any other targeting shows it to matching signed-in members only.
Schedule a banner or pop-up
Open Schedule (optional) and set Starts at and Ends at, in your local time. Leave them empty to start now and never expire. Outside the window, the message doesn't show, so you don't need to turn Active off when it ends. The end time must be after the start time, or you can't save.
How members dismiss a banner or pop-up
- Banner: when Allow users to dismiss the banner is on, members see a ✕ to close it. When dismissing is off, there's no ✕, and the banner stays until it ends or you turn it off.
- Pop-up: closing it counts as acknowledging it.
A signed-in member who dismisses the banner or acknowledges the pop-up doesn't see it again until you save it again. The Reappear frequency (Every page load, Once per session, or Once per day) and the pop-up's Display frequency decide when the message comes back for signed-out visitors. They're remembered in the browser.
Saving a banner or pop-up again, even if you only change its schedule, audience, or Active switch, shows it again to members who dismissed it. It may not reappear right away: the frequency setting remembered in a browser still applies there. With Once per day, that's up to a day later. A pop-up set to Only the first time doesn't show again in a browser where it was already seen.
Turn off a banner or pop-up
Turn off Active on the tab and click Save Settings. If you leave the page with unsaved changes, Mateflow asks whether to discard them.
Banners and pop-ups compared with broadcasts
A banner or pop-up isn't a notification or email, and members who don't visit the community won't see it. To send an announcement to members' notifications, inboxes, or phones, use a broadcast. See Send a broadcast by email and in-app.
