A post is how you share something in a space. This article explains how to write one and what you can attach: photos and videos, GIFs, polls, audio files, voice messages, and documents (file attachments).
Who can do this: Anyone the space lets post: members, moderators, admins, and owners. · Where: Web, and the iOS and Android apps. Documents can only be attached on the web. · Plan: Polls depend on your community's platform plan. The largest file you can upload can also depend on the plan.
Start a new post
On the web:
- Click What's new? at the top of the home feed or a space's feed, or press N anywhere.
- On a phone browser, tap Post in the bottom bar.
In the app: tap Compose in the tab bar, or tap What did you ship today? at the top of the Discover feed on Home. Inside a space, tap the compose button to post there.
Choose a space and a topic for the post
Every post belongs to a space. Use Choose Space to pick one; the list shows spaces you've joined and can post in. If you start from inside a space, it's already selected. If the space has topics, pick one with Select Topic. Some topics are reserved for space admins and moderators.
The space's Who can post setting decides who can post there. See Control who can post, reply, and react in a space. Chat Spaces take chat messages, not posts, and Article Spaces use the article editor; see Write and publish an article.
Write the post text
- Title (optional): a title for the post.
- Text: type in the main box, up to 5,000 characters.
- Mentions: type @ to mention someone, up to 5 people per post.
- Hashtags: type # to add one.
In a Q&A Space, the title is required and the button reads Publish Question.
Click Post to publish. On the web, the arrow next to Post also offers Turn into thread (several connected posts at once), Schedule post, Preview, and Save as draft.
If the space or community requires approval, you see "Post submitted — it will be visible once a moderator approves it." An automated content rule can also hold a post for review or block it.
Add photos, videos, GIFs, polls, audio, or documents to a post
Use the buttons under the text box.

Combining items: photos and videos, a GIF, a poll, documents, and an audio file can't be combined with each other. A voice message can go with any of them except an audio file. If you pick something that conflicts, Mateflow asks you to remove the other item first.
Links: a pasted link shows a preview card. A link to another post in your community becomes a quote card; click Remove quote, keep the link to keep the plain link.
What each space type accepts
The buttons you see depend on the space type.

Replies and quotes don't have to follow the space's rules. They can carry photos, videos, GIFs, and voice messages, but not an audio file.
Upload progress, alt text, and content warnings
Upload progress (web): each photo or video shows a progress ring with a percentage while it uploads.
- For a large video, you can click Pause and later Resume.
- In a Radio Space, the upload area shows Uploading… with a percentage, then Analyzing audio....
- The Post button stays disabled until every upload has finished.
Alt text (image descriptions): alt text is read aloud by screen readers.
- On the web, click Add alt on a photo, write up to 420 characters under Describe this media, and click Save.
- In the app, tap Edit alt text, then tap Done.
Content warning: to put a post behind a warning, click Mark as sensitive and optionally add a reason. Readers see Sensitive content and choose Show content to view it.
