The Mateflow app is one app for every Mateflow community. You sign in with the email you use for your community, and the app opens that community. This article covers signing in, joining a new community from the app, and moving between communities.
Who can do this: Anyone with an account in a Mateflow community, or anyone joining one. · Where: iOS and Android app. · Plan: Not plan-dependent. Which sign-in methods you see (social accounts, SSO) depends on the community's settings.
Sign in to your community in the app
- Open the app and tap Continue with email. If you signed up with a social account, tap its button instead, for example Google or Apple.
- On What's your email?, enter the email you signed up with and tap Continue.
- If the email belongs to one community, you see Welcome back. with the community's name. Enter your Password and tap Sign in.
- If you use two-factor authentication, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app and tap Verify. You can tap Use a recovery code instead, and turn on Trust this device for 30 days.
Forgot your password? Tap Forgot password? on the password screen.
Pick a community when your email belongs to several
If your email is registered in more than one Mateflow community, the app shows Choose a community to sign in to. The community you last signed in to on this phone is under Most recent, and the rest are under Your other communities. Tap Continue under Most recent, or tap another community, and then enter your password.
The app only signs you in to communities where you already have an account. To join a new one, sign up instead.
Join a new community from the app
- On the first screen, tap Sign up for a community.
- On Where are you joining?, enter the Community URL, for example
your-communityforyour-community.mate.so. For a custom domain, type the full address. Tap Continue. - The app shows the community and how to join:
- Public · open to join: create your account right away.
- Private · request to join: your request is reviewed. You'll see Request submitted and get an email once you're approved.
- Paid · subscription required: subscribe to join. For some communities, the app shows Sign-up for this community isn't available in the app., and you need to sign up on the web instead.
- Closed · not accepting members: sign-up isn't available.
- Fill in Display name, Email, @handle, and Password, then tap Create account.
- Enter the 6-digit code sent to your email and tap Verify.
An invite-only community needs your invitation. Use the invitation link as described below.
Join with an invite link or a QR code
On Where are you joining?, you can skip typing the address:
- Paste an invite link: paste the full link from your invitation email, for example
https://your-community.mate.so/invite/…, and tap Continue. The invitation tells the app which community you're joining and unlocks invite-only communities. - Scan a QR code: allow camera access, then point the camera at a QR code that contains an invitation link. A QR code that isn't an invitation, such as the one on a community's download page, shows That doesn't look like an invite code.
On a phone with the app installed, tapping an invitation link for a mate.so address may open it straight in the app.
Switch to a different community in the app
The app is signed in to one community at a time, and there's no community switcher inside it. To move to another community:
- Tap the menu button (☰) at the top left, then tap Log out and confirm. You can also go to Settings and privacy and tap Log out.
- Sign in again with the email for the other community. If the email belongs to both, pick the other one from Your other communities.
If you open a link from a different community while signed in, the app shows Link from another community and asks you to sign in to that community to open it.
Troubleshooting signing in to the app
Symptom: We couldn't find that account. Why it happens: The email isn't registered in any Mateflow community. Fix: Tap Try a different email and use the address you signed up with, or tap Sign up to join.
Symptom: No sign-in methods are available for this community right now. Why it happens: The community hasn't turned on a sign-in method the app can use. Fix: Sign in on the web, or contact the community admin.
