Manage a space from the app

Mobile app · 5 min read

Space admins and space moderators can run their spaces from the Mateflow app with Manage space. It has the same sections as the space's Manage panel on the web. Community-wide settings, the admin console, and course management are only on the web.

Who can do this: Space admins and space moderators, in the spaces they look after. Community owners and admins can manage every space. Community moderators (the Mod role) get Manage space only in spaces where they're also space staff. · Where: iOS and Android app. · Plan: Not plan-dependent. Events and live rooms themselves depend on your platform plan.

Open Manage space in the app

  1. Open the space.
  2. Tap ⋯ in the space's header.
  3. Tap Manage space.

Overview comes first and shows member activity and anything that Needs attention. The other sections are grouped under Setup, Access & people, Content, and Safety, with Archive or delete at the end. A count next to Join requests or the review queue shows how many items are waiting.

If Manage space doesn't appear, you don't manage that space.

What space admins can manage in the app

Only community owners and admins and the person who created the space can delete it. See Archive, restore, or delete a space.

What space moderators can manage in the app

Space moderators run a space day to day but don't change its settings. Under Manage space they see:

  • Overview
  • Members: mute, remove, or ban members with a lower space role
  • Join requests
  • Events (when events are on)
  • Review queue

They don't see Basics & branding, Layout & display, Features, Access & permissions, Topics, Collections, Moderation rules, or Archive or delete. They also can't change roles, create invite links, or export members.

Manage a space's members in the app

  1. In Manage space, tap Members.
  2. Touch and hold a member's row to open Manage member.
  3. Choose an action:
    • Space admins: Promote to admin, Promote to moderator, Demote to moderator, or Demote to member.
    • Space admins and moderators: Mute member, Remove from space ("Their existing posts stay."), or Ban member ("They will be removed and blocked from rejoining."). Unmute member and Unban member undo these.

At the top of Members, space admins also get:

  • Invite links: opens Invite codes. Tap New to create a code, then Copy link or Copy code to share it. Revoke stops new people from using it.
  • Export members: opens Export data. Tap New export to build a Members CSV, then Download it when it's ready.

See Add space moderators.

Manage space sections by space type

The sections follow the space type:

  • Chat Spaces: only Overview, Basics & branding, Access & permissions, Members, Join requests, and Archive or delete.
  • Q&A Spaces: no Layout & display. Topics and collections appear as Question topics and Knowledge collections.
  • Article, Gallery, and Radio Spaces (Radio is the podcast space type): collections appear as Series or Albums, and the review queue is named for the content, such as Episode review queue.
  • Course Spaces: Manage space isn't in the app. Manage courses on the web; see Create a course.

Join requests appears only when the space takes requests (or has had some), and Events only when events are turned on.

What still needs the web

  • Choosing which access groups unlock a space, and its price. The app shows a Payment note but doesn't let you change them.
  • Community-wide moderation rules. A space's Moderation rules screen lists them under Also filtered here, but you edit them on the web.
  • The admin console and every community-wide setting.

See What you can do in the app vs on the web.

Things to know about managing a space in the app

  • Archived spaces: Manage space shows "This space is archived. Most settings are read-only until it is restored."
  • Role changes: if your space role changes while a screen is open, you see "Your permissions changed." Your unsaved changes stay on screen, but you can't save them.
  • Same settings as the web: a change you save in the app shows up in the space's Manage panel on the web, and the other way around.
