Yes. Free is a plan, not a trial: up to 100 members, unlimited spaces, a custom domain, one course, paid memberships and the AI Copilot, with smaller allowances than the paid plans. When members pay you, a 8% transaction fee applies. Support is through the Help Center and the Mateflow community. Each account can have one Free community.

If you haven't picked a paid plan, your community moves to the Free plan instead of being paused. Members, posts and courses stay, and nothing is deleted. Features Free doesn't include switch off, but your settings are kept and come back when you upgrade. Existing paid memberships move to the Free plan's 8% transaction fee from their next invoice. Each account has one Free community: if yours is already in use, the community is paused after a 3-day grace period, and you can subscribe to a paid plan or move your Free plan to it.

New members can't join until you upgrade; your existing members aren't affected. Every member account counts toward the limit, including yours and your admins' and moderators'. We email you at 80% and 100% of the limit. Any paid plan removes the cap — paid plans have unlimited members.

Yes. Verified schools, accredited institutions, and registered nonprofits get 30% off annual Growth and Business plans, and individual educators can start free. Districts, universities, and large associations get custom pricing with 0% transaction fees. Contact us to verify eligibility with your institution email or nonprofit documentation.

Yes. The Starter plan is built for solo creators and small teams validating a community idea, and every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. You can launch, invite members, and accept payments on your own. Add team roles and deeper tooling when you are ready to grow.

Custom domains are included on every plan, and so is the AI Copilot with its Knowledge Base — Free comes with 50 MB of Knowledge Base storage and Starter 200 MB, and capacity grows with each tier. Custom CSS, API access, and webhooks are available on Growth and above. Business adds white-label for deeper branding and integration control.

All paid plans support memberships, gated spaces, and Stripe payments. The difference is the platform transaction fee: 3% on Starter, 2% on Growth, 1% on Business, and 0% on Enterprise. If you expect meaningful revenue, a higher tier pays for itself through lower fees. Stripe's own payment processing fee applies on top on every plan.

Upgrade when you need capabilities your current plan does not include, such as SSO, API access, or lower transaction fees. You do not need to replatform. Upgrades take effect immediately with pro-rated billing, and downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period.

Transaction fees apply only when you monetize your community (charge members for subscriptions or gated content). The platform fee decreases as you upgrade: 3% on Starter, 2% on Growth, 1% on Business, and 0% on Enterprise. Standard Stripe processing fees (2.9% + $0.30) apply separately.

Yes. Every paid plan includes a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. When you are ready, upgrade or switch tiers without rebuilding your community.

Yes — cancel any time from your billing settings. Your community stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for; unused time is not pro-rated. If you are on a monthly plan and it turns out not to be right for you, email hello@mateflow.com to request a full refund within 30 days of your first payment and we will refund it, no questions asked. This guarantee covers your first monthly subscription — annual plans are not eligible, so use the free trial to decide. Your statutory rights as a consumer under EU or UK law are unaffected.

No mandatory setup fee and no required onboarding package for self-serve plans. If you need procurement support, migration guidance, SLA terms, or custom rollout help, that is handled through Enterprise.

Our Migration Program gives switching customers a 30-day extended trial, 50% off the first 3 months on an annual Growth or Business plan, and a 12-month price lock so your subscription cost stays predictable. Growth and Business customers also get hands-on migration assistance for members and custom domains; content is rebuilt on your side, with our advice on what's worth bringing. When you switch from another community platform and join Mateflow through the Migration Program, the price you sign up at stays the same for 12 months — even if our published prices change. The lock applies to your chosen plan tier and billing cadence, and renews at the then-current price afterward.
