Welcome to your community. This guide covers your first steps as a new member: creating your account, working through the Get started checklist, setting up your profile, joining spaces, posting, and getting the mobile app.
Who can do this: Anyone joining a Mateflow community. · Where: Web and the Mateflow app for iOS and Android. · Plan: Not plan-dependent. How you join (open sign-up, application, invitation, or paid subscription) is set by your community.
Create your account and join the community
- Open your community's web address and click Sign up.
- On Create your account, enter your email and click Continue. You can also sign up with a social account if your community offers one.
- If your community asks you to verify your email, Check your email appears. Enter the code we emailed you and click Verify.
- On Complete your profile, enter your Name, a Username, and a Password, then click Create Account. Your community may also ask about your age: tick "I confirm that I am at least 16 years old." (with your community's minimum age), or choose your Month and year of birth.
Depending on how your community lets people join, you may see something different:
- Application: you answer a few questions and click Submit application. You'll see Application submitted and get an email once an admin approves you.
- Invitation only: the page says the community is invitation-only. Use the invitation link a community admin emailed you. Sign-up then uses the email address the invitation was sent to.
- Paid community: you choose a plan on Choose your plan and subscribe before you can join. If you were invited as a moderator or admin, you sign up without paying. See Manage your membership and payments.
- Closed: Registration is currently closed means the community isn't accepting new members right now.
- Full: "This community is full. Please contact an admin for details." means the community has reached its member limit. Contact the community's admins.

Work through the Get started checklist
After you join, a Get started card (the new-member onboarding checklist) shows your community's welcome message and a short list of steps. On the web it's in the right-hand sidebar; in the app it's at the top of the Home feed.
Unless your community changed them, the steps are:
- Complete your profile
- Join a space
- Share your first post
- Follow a member
Click a step to go to the right page. Steps tick themselves off when you do the action, so there's nothing to mark by hand. When everything is done, the card shows All done!. You can close it at any time with Dismiss (✕).
Set up your member profile
A complete profile helps other members recognize you. Click your avatar in the top bar and choose Settings. On Profile, add a photo, cover image, Display Name, Headline, Bio, and social links, then click Save Profile Changes. Your community may ask for extra details under Additional Information.
In the app, open the menu (☰), tap Settings and privacy, then Edit profile. For all profile and account options, see Edit your profile and account.
Join spaces in your community
Spaces are where posts, chats, courses, and events live. To find them, click Spaces in the navigation, or Browse spaces under the space list in the sidebar. In the app, tap Spaces in the tab bar. On the web, the Discover tab lists spaces you can join; Joined lists yours.
The button on each space tells you how to get in:
- Join Space: you're in right away.
- Request Access: an admin reviews your request. The button shows Request Pending until then.
- Subscribe, Unlock, or Unlock Once: the space is part of a paid membership or sold on its own.
- How to join: the space is only for members of certain access groups and isn't open for subscriptions. The window that opens says For members of and names the groups. Ask an admin if you should have access, or paste an invite code there. In the app, the space's page shows the same message and I have an invite code instead of a join button.
- Invite Only: you need an invitation from the space's admins.
Publish your first post
- Click the What's new? box at the top of the home feed or a space's feed. In a phone's browser, tap Post in the bottom bar.
- Choose the space to post in. Every post needs a space.
- Write your post, add photos or other attachments if you like, and click Post.
In the app, tap Compose in the tab bar. For formats such as polls and audio, see Create a post: text, media, polls, audio, and files.
Get the Mateflow mobile app
Mateflow has a free app for iPhone and Android. Click your avatar and choose Get the mobile app, or search for Mateflow in the App Store or Google Play. Sign in with the same email you use on the web. See Install the Mateflow app.
