Communities teach through courses โ structured lessons you work through at your own pace. This guide walks a member through enrolling, learning, taking quizzes, and finishing. If you build and sell courses, see create and sell courses instead.
Enroll in a course
Open a course to see its overview, curriculum, ratings, and instructors. In the sidebar you'll find one of these buttons depending on how the course is set up:
- Enroll for free โ free courses; you're in right away
- Buy now or Subscribe โ paid courses; you complete checkout first
- Request access โ private courses that need approval
Once enrolled, the button changes to Continue learning and a progress bar shows how far along you are.
Move through the lessons
Lessons are grouped into sections in the left-hand sidebar. Click any lesson to open it in the player. Courses can mix several lesson types:

| Video | Watch in the player; your position is saved so you can resume later |
| Text | Read the written lesson |
| File | View a PDF inline or download the attached file |
| Embed | Watch embedded content such as a hosted video |
| Quiz | Answer questions to test what you learned |
Use the Previous and Next buttons to move between lessons โ or the left and right arrow keys on a keyboard. Many lessons also have a Notes tab for your private notes and a Discussion tab to ask the group questions.
Mark lessons complete and track progress
When you finish a lesson, tap Mark as complete (or Finish lesson). Completed lessons are checked off in the sidebar and your course progress percentage climbs. You can always mark a lesson incomplete again if you want to revisit it. Video lessons remember where you stopped, so pressing Continue drops you back in the right spot.
Take a quiz
Quiz lessons show the number of questions, the pass score, and how many attempts you have (some quizzes are unlimited). Questions can be single-choice, multiple-choice, or true/false โ the lesson tells you which. Select your answers and tap Submit. You'll immediately see:
- Your score and whether you passed
- Which answers were right or wrong, with explanations where the instructor added them
If you don't pass and attempts remain, tap Retake to try again.
Earn your certificate
Finishing every lesson (and passing any required quizzes) completes the course. MateFlow celebrates with a Congratulations screen, and if the instructor enabled certificates, you'll get a certificate number and a Download Certificate button.
