Turn on events and live streaming in a space

Events & live · 4 min read

Events and live sessions aren't space types. They're features you switch on inside a space. With events on, the space gets an Events tab and a calendar of gatherings with RSVPs. With live on, people can start interactive rooms and webinars in the space, and its Live card lists the sessions that are live or coming up. Replays appear on the Live page's Replays tab.

Who can do this: Community owners and admins, and space admins. Space moderators can't change these switches. · Where: Web (the space's Manage panel → Features) and the iOS and Android apps. · Plan: Events and live rooms depend on your platform plan. If your plan doesn't include interactive rooms, the Live section doesn't appear.

Which spaces support events and live

You'll find the Features section in Feed, Article, Gallery, Radio, and Q&A Spaces. Chat Spaces don't support events or live sessions, and Course Spaces don't have a Features section.

New spaces usually start with events turned on. Whether live starts on depends on the space type and your plan, so check the switch before you schedule a session.

Turn on events in a space

  1. Open the space's Manage panel: click the gear icon (Manage) on the space's page, or open the space's ⋯ menu in the sidebar and click Manage space. You can also go to Admin → Community → Spaces, open the space's ⋯ menu, and click Manage.
  2. Click Features.
  3. Under Events, turn on Enable events.
  4. Click Save Changes.

The space's Manage panel now also has an Events page, where space admins and moderators can manage the space's events. Members see the space's Events tab once the space has at least one event; people who can create events always see it.

In the app: open the space, tap ⋯, tap Manage space, then tap Features.

Let members create events in a space

By default, only the space's admins and moderators, and community owners and admins, can create events. To let every member of the space create events, turn on Allow members to create events under Events, then click Save Changes. The switch only takes effect while Enable events is on.

In the app, set Who can create events to Members or Admins and moderators.

To create an event, see Create an event.

Turn on live streaming and interactive rooms in a space

"Live" in Mateflow means interactive rooms (video or audio) and webinars that people join in the browser or the app.

  1. In the space's Manage panel, click Features.
  2. Under Live, turn on Enable live & interactive rooms.
  3. Click Save Changes.

When the switch is off, nobody can start a live session or interactive room in the space, and the space's replays are hidden.

Let members go live in a space

By default, only the space's admins and moderators, and community owners and admins, can start a live session. To let members of the space start one, turn on Allow members to go live under Live, then click Save Changes. It only takes effect while Enable live & interactive rooms is on.

In the app, set Who can start live to Members or Admins and moderators.

To start a session, see Go live: stream to your community.

Turn events or live off in a space

Turn off Enable events or Enable live & interactive rooms and click Save Changes. If the space still has upcoming or active items, Mateflow asks you to confirm (Turn off events for this space? or Turn off live for this space?) and shows how many items are affected. Click Turn it off to continue.

Those items stop being visible to members, but nothing is deleted. Turning the feature back on restores them.

Troubleshooting events and live switches

Symptom: There's no Live section under Features. Why it happens: Your platform plan doesn't include interactive rooms. Fix: Check Admin → Billing → Plan & Usage. See Check live streaming usage and limits.

Symptom: Members can't see a space's Events tab. Why it happens: The space has no events yet, events are turned off, or your plan doesn't include events. Fix: Create the first event, or check the switch and your plan.

Symptom: You don't see Features at all. Why it happens: The space is a Chat or Course Space, or you're a space moderator rather than a space admin.
