Topics and collections help members find content inside a space. Topics are labels (like tags) that people add to posts, so members can filter the space's feed. Collections are curated groups of posts, such as a series of articles, a photo album, or a set of essential Q&A answers. Don't confuse them with sidebar categories, which group spaces, or with members' own bookmarks. See Bookmark posts and browse collections.
Who can do this: Space admins, the person who created the space, and community owners and admins create and edit topics and collections, and add posts to collections or remove them; space moderators can't. Members choose a topic when they post. · Where: Web (the space's Manage panel, and Admin → Community → Collections) and the iOS and Android apps (Manage space). · Plan: Available on every platform plan.
Topic and collection names by space type
Topics and collections are available in Feed, Article, Gallery, Radio, and Q&A Spaces. Chat Spaces and Course Spaces don't have them. The Manage panel names the sections after the space type:
| Space type | Topics section | Collections section |
|---|---|---|
| Feed Space | Topics | Collections |
| Article Space | Topics | Series |
| Gallery Space | Topics | Albums |
| Radio Space | Topics | Series |
| Q&A Space | Question topics | Knowledge collections |
Create a topic in a space
- Open the space's Manage panel: click the gear icon (Manage) on the space's page, or open the space's ⋯ menu in the sidebar and click Manage space.
- Click Topics (Question topics in a Q&A Space), then Create.
- Enter a Topic Name, for example "Announcements".
- Optionally turn on Restricted Topic under Access Control. Only space admins and moderators can then add this topic to posts.
- Click Save.
Drag topics to change their order, or use the edit and delete buttons next to each one. Deleting a topic asks you to confirm and removes the topic from its posts; the posts themselves stay. Restricted topics show an Admin Only badge in the list.
In the app: open the space, tap ⋯, tap Manage space, then tap Topics.
How members use topics
- When posting, members click Select Topic and pick one topic. Restricted topics can only be added by space admins and moderators.
- On the space's page, topics appear as filter buttons above the posts. Clicking one shows only posts with that topic.
Create a collection in a space
- In the space's Manage panel, click Collections (or Series, Albums, or Knowledge collections), then Create.
- Enter a Title and, optionally, a Description and a Cover Image.
- Optionally turn on Featured Collection to highlight it.
- Click Save.
To remove a collection, click its delete button and confirm. The posts in it aren't deleted.
In the app: open the space, tap ⋯, tap Manage space, then tap the collections section.
Add posts to a collection
Space admins, the person who created the space, and community owners and admins can add posts to a collection. Space moderators don't see these options.
- Open a post's ⋯ menu and click Add to Collection.
- Choose the collection and click Save.
Only top-level posts can be added, not replies, and you can't add posts in an archived space. To take a post out, open the collection, then open the post's ⋯ menu and click Remove from Collection.
Manage every collection from the admin console
Community owners and admins can see all collections across spaces in Admin → Community → Collections. From there you can:
- click Create Collection, choose the Space, and fill in the Title, Description, Cover Image, and Featured Collection;
- search collections, filter by Featured or Not Featured, and see each collection's space and number of posts;
- edit or delete a collection, or use Add to Featured and Remove from Featured.
Moderators don't see this page.
What members see
- The space's page shows a Collections panel listing its collections and how many posts each holds. Members open a collection to browse its posts.
- In Private and Secret spaces, only people who can read the space see its collections.
- Topic filters and collections only organize posts; they don't change who can see or post in the space. To control that, see Control who can post, reply, and react in a space.
