When a space has run its course, archive it. Archiving retires the space: it disappears for members, becomes read-only, and keeps all its content, so you can restore it later. Deleting a space removes it and everything in it for good.
Who can do this: Community owners and admins can archive, restore, and delete any space. Space admins can archive and restore their space. Only community owners and admins and the space's creator can delete it. · Where: Web (the space's Manage panel and Admin → Community → Spaces) and the iOS and Android apps. · Plan: Available on every platform plan.
Archive a space
- Open the space's Manage panel: click the gear icon (Manage) on the space's page, or open the space's ⋯ menu in the sidebar and click Manage space.
- Click Danger Zone, then Archive Space.
- Optionally enter a Reason (optional). Space managers see it later on the archived space.
- Click Archive Space to confirm.
From the admin console: go to Admin → Community → Spaces, open the space's ⋯ menu, click Archive, and confirm. To archive several spaces, select them and click Archive.
In the app: open the space, tap ⋯, tap Manage space, tap Archive or delete, then Archive space.
For a Course Space, the confirmation warns that enrolled students, including paying ones, lose access to the course while it's archived.
What happens when a space is archived
- The space disappears from the sidebar, search, and discovery, and its posts disappear from feeds and search results.
- Members and space moderators lose access. When they open the space, they see Space archived: "This space is archived and no longer available in member-facing views." Old links to its posts show a not-found page.
- No one can post, reply, react, or send chat messages there, including admins. The space shows "This space is archived and read-only."
- Notifications about the space are cleared, and they don't come back when you restore it.
- Paid access is paused, not canceled. Members' subscriptions keep running, and they get access back when the space is restored.
- Content, members, and settings are kept. The Manage panel becomes read-only.
Space admins who open their archived space see a banner, "This Space has been archived", with the date, who archived it, and the reason. Community owners and admins can still read its posts.
Restore an archived space
- On the space: click Restore Space in the archived banner.
- In the Manage panel: go to Danger Zone, click Unarchive Space, and confirm ("Restore this space?").
- In the admin console: open the Archived tab in Admin → Community → Spaces, open the space's ⋯ menu, and click Unarchive. Select several spaces to unarchive them together.
- In the app: Manage space → Archive or delete → Restore space.
The space becomes visible and active again, and members regain access. Its posts return to feeds and search.
Delete a space permanently
Deleting removes the space and all its posts, events, chats, members, and settings. For a course, lessons, enrollments, progress, and issued certificates are destroyed too. It can't be undone, so consider exporting the member list first from the Members page of the Manage panel.
- In the Manage panel, go to Danger Zone and click Delete Space.
- Type DELETE and then the space's name to confirm.
- Click Delete Space.
From the admin console: open the space's ⋯ menu in Admin → Community → Spaces, click Delete, and type DELETE and the space name. Deleting several selected spaces at once asks for a single confirmation.
In the app: Manage space → Archive or delete, type the space name and the confirmation word, then tap Delete space permanently.
You can delete an archived space without restoring it first.
Find archived and suspended spaces
Admin → Community → Spaces has All, Active, Archived, and Suspended tabs. A Suspended space was put on hold by a community admin: it's read-only, can't be deleted, and space admins can't restore it. Community owners and admins lift a suspension with Unsuspend in the space's ⋯ menu.
Moderators can view the Spaces list but can't archive, restore, or delete spaces.
