You can change or remove anything you've posted: posts, replies (comments), and Q&A questions and answers. Space moderators and community admins can also delete other members' posts to keep a space tidy.
Who can do this: Authors edit and delete their own posts. Community owners and admins, and a space's admins and moderators, can delete other people's posts. Nobody can edit someone else's post. · Where: Web and the iOS and Android apps. Community moderators also delete posts in the admin console on the web. · Plan: Available on every platform plan.
Edit your post or reply
On the web:
- Open the ⋯ menu on your post or reply and click Edit.
- Make your changes in Edit Post.
- Click Update. You see "Post updated successfully!".
In the app: tap ⋯, then Edit post (or Edit reply). Make your changes and tap Update.
You can change the title, the text, photos and videos, the GIF, the audio file, documents (on the web), Who can reply, and the content warning. You can't move a post to another space. A poll can't be changed once people have started voting.
An edited post shows (edited) next to its time. Articles open in the article editor instead; see Write and publish an article.
When you can't edit a post
- It isn't yours. Only the author can edit a post. Admins and moderators hide or delete posts instead of rewriting them.
- A moderator hid it. The ⋯ menu shows "Editing is off while this is hidden". See Pin, lock, or hide a post.
- It was rejected in review. You can still delete it.
- The space is archived. You see "This space is archived and read-only."
- Someone changed it at the same time. If you see Post changed while you were editing, click Refresh to load the newest version, then edit again.
How edits are moderated
Your community's automated moderation rules check edits the same way they check new posts:
- "Saved — an automated rule sent this for review, so it is hidden until a moderator approves it." Your edit is saved, but other members can't see the post until it's approved.
- "A content rule blocked this edit. Change the wording and try again." Nothing was saved.
If you edit a scheduled post, you see "Saved — this post is scheduled, so it stays off the public feed until its publish time." See Save drafts and schedule posts.
Delete your post or reply
On the web:
- Open the ⋯ menu on the post or reply and click Delete.
- In Delete Post?, click Delete. The post is removed from your profile, your followers' feeds, and search results, and you see "Post deleted".
In the app: tap ⋯, then Delete post (or Delete reply), and confirm Delete this post? with Delete.
You can't undo deleting a post or reply. If you only want to stop the discussion, edit the post and set Who can reply to Turn off comments (in the app, Nobody).
Delete another member's post
People who look after a space or the community can delete posts that don't belong there:
- Community owners and admins: any post or reply, from its ⋯ menu → Delete, or in Admin → Content → Posts.
- Space admins and space moderators: posts and replies in their own spaces, from the ⋯ menu on the web or in the app.
- Community moderators: in Admin → Content → Posts. The community Mod role doesn't give them the ⋯ → Delete option in spaces where they aren't space staff. See Add space moderators.
Deleting a post from the admin console asks you to confirm ("This action cannot be undone."), and there's no way to restore the post afterward. To remove a post but keep it, use Hide instead. See Manage posts, articles, and media in the admin console.
The author can't appeal a deleted post. To act on a post someone reported, see Review reported content.
