MateFlow gives every member direct control over their own data. From your account settings you can download a copy of everything you have created, temporarily deactivate your account, or permanently delete it. This guide explains each option and where to find it under Settings → Security.
Export a copy of your data
In the Data export section of Security, choose Export my data. MateFlow builds a downloadable archive that includes your profile, settings, bookmarks, posts, comments, and messages. The export runs in the background โ you will see it move through queued and processing before it is ready.
- When it completes, a Download button appears. Save the file promptly, because the link expires after a set period.
- You can cancel an export while it is still running, and recent exports are listed so you can track their status.
- If an export fails, simply request a new one.
Deactivate vs delete your account
The Danger zone at the bottom of Security offers two very different actions:
- Deactivate โ a reversible pause. Your account is hidden and you are signed out, but nothing is destroyed. Confirm with your password; sign back in later to reactivate.
- Delete โ permanent removal. You must enter your password and type the exact confirmation phrase DELETE_MY_ACCOUNT. Deletion is then scheduled rather than instant, giving you a grace period.
During that grace period a banner appears offering to Cancel deletion. If you change your mind before the scheduled date, one click stops the process and restores your account. After the date passes, removal is final.
Other privacy and security controls
The Security page also lets you protect and manage access to your account:
- Change your email and password, and set a password if you signed up with a social login.
- Manage linked accounts (social sign-ins) and turn on two-factor authentication for stronger protection.
- Enable login alerts, review trusted devices, and see and revoke active sessions on other devices.
What admins and creators are responsible for
If you run a community, you are the data controller for your members. Community owners can export member records from Admin → Members → Import / Export โ treat that data carefully, share it only when necessary, and honor member requests to access or remove their information. Being transparent about what you collect builds the trust that keeps a community healthy.
