Many communities reward you for taking part. You earn points for posting and commenting, climb levels, unlock medals (badges), and see where you rank on the leaderboard. Your community sets up this gamification, so what you see depends on its settings.
Who can do this: Any signed-in member. · Where: Web and the Mateflow app for iOS and Android. · Plan: Points, levels, medals, and the leaderboard are available only if your community's plan includes them and the community has turned them on.
How you earn points
Your community decides which actions earn points and how many. Your community may also give points its own name. Actions it can reward include:
- Created a post, Published a blog post, and Posted a comment
- Received a like and Liked someone's content
- Answer accepted (in a Q&A space) and Invitation accepted
- Daily login
- Registered for an event
- Completed a lesson and Completed a course
Many actions have a daily limit, such as "Up to 3 times per day". After that, doing the action again that day doesn't earn more points. Daily limits reset at midnight in the community's time zone.
See your points in the Member Center
On the web, click your avatar and choose Member Center. At the top, you'll see your points total, how many points you need for your next level ("… to next level"), and your rank in the community.
Under My Points:
- Points History lists what you earned points for and when. Click Show all to see more. If points are taken back, the entry shows the action followed by "(reversed)" and a minus amount.
- How to Earn Points lists your community's rules: each action, how many points it's worth, and its daily limit. On the web, you also see how many times you've earned it today, for example "Today 1/3".
In the app: open the side menu and tap Member center. Your points, rank, and progress to the next level are at the top. Scroll to Recent points and tap Full log › to open Points history. Tap How to earn points to see the rules.
Keep a login streak
Your login streak counts the days in a row you've signed in, by your community's time zone. Staying signed in doesn't count; only actual sign-ins do. Find it under My Points in the Member Center (Login streak in the app), with your longest streak and the days left to the next milestone. At a milestone, you get a notification and a streak label on your profile.
The streak itself doesn't earn points. If your community rewards Daily login, you earn those points separately, once a day.
Level up
As your points add up, you move up through levels. Your community names each level. Your current level appears as a colored label next to your name on posts, comments, and your profile.
On the web, hover over the level label on your profile to see your Current Points, Lifetime Points, Global Rank, Current Level, and Next level progress. When you reach a new level, you get a "Level up!" notification.
Some communities unlock a course when you reach a certain level. The course page shows the level you need and how close you are.
Unlock Membership Medals (badges)
Medals, also called badges, are milestones you unlock by meeting requirements your community sets. On the web, go to Member Center → My Achievements → Membership Medals. Click a medal to see whether it's Unlocked or Locked, and your Progress to unlock for each requirement. Requirements can include Points, Posts, Comments, Likes received, Login days, Subscription months, and Total spent. The medal marked Current is the one shown with your avatar.
In the app, open Member center and scroll to Current medal and Medals.
When you unlock a medal, you get a "Badge earned" notification, and it appears under Badges on your profile. On the web, click View all badges there to see every badge and what it takes to unlock it.
See the community leaderboard
Click Leaderboard in the community's navigation. Choose Today, This Week, This Month, or All Time to rank members by the points they earned in that period. The bar at the top shows your own place. The Top Contributors box on the home page links here with View full leaderboard.
In the app: open the side menu and tap Leaderboard. The app offers This week, This month, and All time.
To leave the leaderboard, go to Settings → Privacy & Safety and turn off Member Directory, then click Save Privacy Settings. This also removes you from the member list, search results, and recommendations.
If you don't see points or the leaderboard
- No points in the Member Center: your community hasn't turned on points, or its plan doesn't include them.
- No Leaderboard, or "The leaderboard is turned off" ("Leaderboard is off" in the app): an admin turned it or points off, or the plan lacks leaderboards.
- An action doesn't earn points: check How to Earn Points. The action may not be rewarded, or you may have reached today's limit.
Your community's admins set these up, so ask them if something looks wrong. See Get help with your community.
