Your community homepage (home page) is the first page people see: banners at the top, pinned posts, the home feed, and a sidebar of widgets. Set how the feed is sorted, which widgets appear, and what banners members and visitors see.
Who can do this: Owners and admins. · Where: Web (admin console, or the homepage's settings sheet). The feed sort order also applies in the Mateflow app. · Plan: Homepage settings aren't limited by plan.
What's on your community homepage
- Hero banner at the top, with a different version for members and for visitors.
- Pinned posts that you pinned to the community, and a card for a live event that's happening now.
- Feed tabs: Discover for everyone, plus Following and For You for signed-in members.
- Right sidebar (wide screens only): a sidebar banner, the new-member Get started checklist, and widgets.
On phones the sidebar is hidden. Instead, the feed shows a Discover spaces card that suggests spaces to join.
Open the homepage settings
Go to Admin → Appearance → Homepage. The page has two tabs: Feed & Sidebar and Banners.
You can also edit from the homepage itself: click the gear button next to the feed tabs to open Community Settings, then use the Feed, Widgets, or Banners tab.
Choose how the Discover feed is sorted
- On the Feed & Sidebar tab, find Discover Feed.
- Under Default Sort Order, choose:
- Latest: newest posts first.
- Top: posts with the most engagement. Then choose a Time window: Today, This week, This month, or All time.
- Featured: posts that an admin featured with Feature Post.
- Click Save Changes.
The sort order applies to the Discover tab on the web and in the app. It doesn't change Following or For You.
Add, hide, and reorder sidebar widgets
Under Sidebar Widgets on the Feed & Sidebar tab:
- Reorder: drag a widget by its handle.
- Hide or show: use the widget's switch.
- Choose who sees it: set All visitors, Guests only, or Members only.
The built-in widgets are Leaderboard, Upcoming Events, Who To Follow, Trending Topics, Recommended Spaces, and New Members. Leaderboard, Upcoming Events, and Who To Follow only show to signed-in members, and a widget with nothing to show stays hidden.
To add your own widget, click Custom widget, enter a Title and HTML content, then click Add widget. Scripts and event handlers are removed, so use simple links, text, and images. You can have up to 20 widgets. Click Save Changes when you're done.
Visibility only decides where a widget is displayed. Don't put private information in a custom widget.
Set up homepage banners for members and visitors
On the Banners tab, choose Visitor (people who aren't signed in) or Member. Each has a Hero Banner and a Sidebar Banner.
- Use the switch to turn a banner on or off.
- Click the edit button to change it. The editor has Content, Design, and Delivery tabs: title, subtitle, feature highlights, action buttons, layout, aspect ratio, a background image, video, or gradient, and a Schedule with Start at and End at times. Turn on Allow users to dismiss to add a close button. Member banners can also be limited by Onboarding status and Roles.
- Click Save.
Banner changes take effect immediately. There's no separate Save Changes step on this tab. For a banner or pop-up on every page, not just the homepage, see Show a site-wide banner or pop-up.
Feature spaces on the homepage
The Recommended Spaces widget and the Discover spaces card suggest spaces to join. Featured spaces come first, followed by popular public spaces. Spaces the member already joined and secret spaces aren't suggested.
To feature a space, go to Admin → Community → Spaces, open the space's ⋯ menu, and click Feature. Click Unfeature to remove it. To feature several at once, select them and choose Set featured.
What visitors see on your homepage
Visitors who aren't signed in see the Discover tab only, the Visitor banners, and widgets set to All visitors or Guests only. If your community is private, visitors have to sign in before they see the homepage. See Choose who can join: visibility and registration.
