Control what people see in your community's menus. The main navigation menu is the list of links at the top of the left sidebar. Sidebar links sit at the bottom of the sidebar, and the footer shows your copyright text and social icons.
Who can do this: Owners and admins. · Where: Web (admin console, or the homepage's settings sheet). The main menu also appears in the Mateflow app's menu. · Plan: Menus aren't limited by plan. Some built-in items, such as Courses or Live, only work when your platform plan includes that feature.
Open the navigation, links, and footer settings
Go to Admin → Appearance, then click Navigation, Links, or Footer. You can also click the gear button next to the feed tabs on your homepage to open Community Settings, which has Navigation, Links, and Footer tabs.
Change the main navigation menu
Admin → Appearance → Navigation shows your Main Menu. It starts with built-in system menus such as Home, Spaces, Courses, Events, Live, Members, Leaderboard, and AI Assistant.
- Reorder: drag an item, or use its up and down arrows.
- Hide a system menu: click its eye button. System menus have fixed labels, links, and visibility, and they can't be deleted. You can change their icon from the settings (gear) button.
- Remove your own item: click its trash button.
Badges explain items members can't see: Hidden, Disabled by your plan, or Not visible to members yet (for example, Courses before your first course exists).
Click Save Navigation to publish your changes.
In the Mateflow app, the same items appear in the menu (☰), except Home and Spaces, which have their own tabs.
Add a link or dropdown to the main menu
- Click Add Menu.
- Choose a Type: Standard Link or Overflow Menu (a dropdown that holds other links).
- Enter a Menu Label. For a Standard Link, enter the Link URL: a full https:// address or a page in your community that starts with /.
- Optionally choose an Icon, a Visibility, and a Target (Same Tab or New Tab). Visibility can be All Users, Public Only (only people who aren't signed in), or Members Only.
- Click Add Menu, then Save Navigation.
To put a link inside a dropdown, drag it into the Overflow Menu, or open the link's settings and choose the menu under Location. System menus can't be moved into a dropdown.
Add sidebar links for resources
Sidebar links are reference links at the bottom of the left sidebar, such as a help center, app downloads, or a status page. Put high-traffic pages in the main menu instead.
- Go to Admin → Appearance → Links and make sure the Sidebar Links switch is on.
- Click Add group if you need one. A group title is optional.
- Click Add link and fill in Name, Link, Opens in, Visible to (Everyone, Members only, or Signed-out visitors only), Group, and an optional Icon.
- Click Save.
Sidebar link changes save right away, with no extra save step. You can have up to 4 groups with 8 links each. Links must be a full https:// address or a path that starts with /. Email and phone links aren't supported. As an admin, you can also click Manage links… in the sidebar itself.
Edit the footer's copyright text and social icons
Go to Admin → Appearance → Footer.
- Turn on Enable footer.
- Under Bottom Text, enter your copyright notice or tagline. Leave it empty to show © with the year and your community name.
- To show social icons, turn on the switch next to Social Links, click Add social link, choose the platform (for example Twitter / X, Instagram, YouTube, Discord, or Website), and paste the URL. You can add up to 10.
- Click Save Changes.
The footer appears at the bottom of the right sidebar on wide screens, and in the left menu on phones. Turning the footer off hides your copyright text and social icons.
The Terms, Privacy, and Cookies links always appear in the footer area, even when the footer is off. Set where they point in Admin → Settings → Legal. See Add terms of service and a privacy policy. A "Powered by Mateflow" note also appears unless your platform plan removes Mateflow branding.
