Notifications keep your community coming back. MateFlow combines a personal notification feed that every member controls with an admin broadcast tool that lets you announce news across in-app, email, and push at once. Getting the balance right โ relevant, timely, never noisy โ is one of the highest-leverage things a community manager can do.
The member notification feed
Every signed-in member has a notifications page with an unread-count badge in the header. The feed is organized into tabs so nothing important gets lost:
- All โ everything, newest first.
- Interactions โ likes, replies, reposts, and quotes on their content.
- Mentions โ where they were @-mentioned.
- Follows โ new followers.
- System โ platform and admin messages.
- Messages โ direct and group message alerts.
Members can filter by All, Unread only, or Read only, and clear their queue with one Mark all as read action. Similar events are grouped (for example, "Jordan and 5 others liked your post") so the feed stays readable.
Member notification preferences
Under Settings → Notifications, members fine-tune what reaches them across four tabs.
Preferences
Master switches turn Email, Push, and In-app notifications on or off. Here members also set an event reminder default (off, 15 minutes, 1 hour, or 1 day before) and an email digest frequency of real-time, daily, weekly, or off โ a great way to bundle activity into a single email instead of many.
Categories
Each activity type โ followers, likes, comments, mentions, reposts, direct messages, space activity, event reminders, and earned badges โ can be toggled independently per channel (email, push, in-app).
Spaces and Muted
The Spaces tab sets a per-space notification level: All, Highlights, Mentions only, or Off. The Muted tab lists conversations and threads a member has silenced.
| Channel | Best for |
|---|---|
| In-app | Everyday activity members see when they visit |
| Push | Time-sensitive alerts on mobile |
| Email / digest | Re-engaging members who are away |
Sending announcements and broadcasts
To reach members proactively, open Admin → Marketing → Broadcasts and start a new broadcast. The composer lets you send one message across multiple channels at once:
- Pick any combination of In-app, Email, and Push.
- Choose your audience โ all members, or a specific membership tier.
- Write a title and per-channel content. In-app messages carry a type of announcement, update, alert, or reminder; email supports a rich body and reusable templates; push has a short body and an optional deep link.
Before you commit, use Preview to see each channel, Send test to check delivery, and Save draft to finish later. When ready, Send now or Schedule it for a future time. A handy Fill from email action flattens your email copy into the shorter in-app and push variants. Note that the email channel is plan-gated โ if it is locked, upgrade or send the remaining channels.
Announcement best practices
Reserve broadcasts for things members genuinely want: launches, live events, schedule changes, and milestones. Match the channel to the urgency, respect the digest cadence members chose, and always preview before sending. Consistency builds trust; over-notifying trains people to ignore you.
