Your subdomain is your community's Mateflow web address, such as yourname.mate.so. You choose it when you create the community, and you can change it later with Edit Subdomain. It's also called your default domain or community URL.
Who can do this: Owners and admins. · Where: Web (admin console). The creator dashboard shows the subdomain but can't change it. · Plan: Every community has a subdomain, and changing it isn't limited by plan.
Before you change your subdomain
- Choose a name you'll keep. The Edit Subdomain panel says: "Change your community's default subdomain. This can only be done once every 30 days." A new community can change it right away.
- The old address stops working immediately. There's no redirect from the old subdomain, so plan to update links you've shared, such as on your website or in social profiles. Links in emails already sent to members stop working too.
- A custom domain is separate. If you want members to use your own domain, such as community.example.com, see Connect a custom domain.
Change your subdomain in the admin console
- Go to Admin → Settings → General and scroll to Domain Settings.
- In the Mateflow Subdomain row, check your current address next to "Your default community URL:", then click Edit Subdomain.
- In the Subdomain field, type the new name. The .mate.so part is added for you. Use 3–63 lowercase letters, numbers, or hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or number.
- Click Check. If the name is free, you see "Subdomain is available". If it isn't, the panel tells you why, for example "Subdomain is already taken".
- Click Save Changes.
If you made the change while on the old address, you're taken to the same page on the new subdomain. Sign in again there: your sign-in doesn't carry over to the new address.
When Edit Subdomain is locked
If you changed the subdomain recently, Edit Subdomain is disabled and the row shows "Locked — available in" and the number of days left. The 30 days count from your last successful change. You can change it again when the countdown ends. There's no way to skip the wait.
The custom domain has its own separate limit. Changing or removing a custom domain doesn't affect when you can change the subdomain. See Troubleshoot custom domain issues.
What changes after you change the subdomain
- Your community's default address and admin console move to the new subdomain, for example newname.mate.so/admin.
- The old subdomain shows "Site not found". The old name is released right away, so someone else can take it for their community.
- A connected custom domain keeps working. Its DNS record points to a Mateflow address that doesn't include your subdomain, so you don't need to change it. Links in Mateflow's emails to members use your custom domain when you have one.
- If your social login uses your own OAuth app (custom credentials), update the redirect URI in the provider's developer console to the new subdomain. Social login with platform credentials needs no change. See Set up social login.
- In the creator dashboard, Dashboard (app.mateflow.com) → Communities, open your community and click Domain to see the new address under Default domain (subdomain).
