Moderators and admins act on reports to keep the community safe, which sometimes means removing a post, issuing a warning, or suspending an account. If you believe a decision was made in error, or you have context the moderators did not have, you can submit an appeal. This guide explains what to expect and how the appeal flow works.
What a moderation action looks like
Depending on the situation, you may notice one of the following:
- Content removed or hidden — a specific post or comment is taken down.
- A warning — a note letting you know something crossed the line, with no loss of access.
- A suspension or ban — your access to the community is restricted. When you try to sign in, you will see a message that explains the restriction and usually includes the reason.
Where a reason is provided, read it carefully first — it tells you exactly which action you can appeal and why the decision was made.
Submit an appeal
If your account has been suspended or banned, the sign-in error message links you to the appeal page. Open that page to see the appeal form. It will show the reason recorded for the action so you know what you are responding to.
- In the reason field, explain clearly and calmly why the decision should be reconsidered. Add any context or details the moderators may not have seen.
- You have up to 2,000 characters — be specific rather than lengthy.
- Select Submit to send your appeal to the moderation team.
Tip: Always open the appeal page from the sign-in error message. That link carries the reference the form needs to attach your appeal to the correct action. If you land on the page without it, you will be prompted to reopen it from the error message or contact support.
Track your appeal status
Once submitted, your appeal shows its current status along with the reason you wrote and the date it was sent. There are three possible statuses:
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending | Your appeal has been received and is waiting for a moderator to review it. |
| Approved | The moderators agreed with your appeal and the action has been reversed or adjusted. |
| Rejected | The moderators reviewed your appeal and decided the original action stands. |
When a moderator responds, any note they add appears alongside the status so you can see their reasoning. You can submit one appeal per action, so make it count.
Write a stronger appeal
- Stay factual and respectful — a calm tone helps your case.
- Address the specific reason given, rather than the decision in general.
- Include context: what actually happened, and why it does not break the rules.
- Acknowledge any genuine mistake and describe what you will do differently.
