AI features in your community

AI features · 5 min read

Mateflow's AI features answer members' questions, help people write, and help your team moderate. This article lists each AI feature, where you turn it on, and how AI usage is paid for.

Who can do this: Owners and admins set up AI features. Signed-in members use them; guests don't see AI features. · Where: Web (admin console). Members can also use the AI assistant in the Mateflow app. · Plan: AI features, and how much AI your community can use, depend on your platform plan.

AI features Mateflow offers your community

Most of Mateflow's AI features are grouped under AI Copilot in the admin console. AI moderation is the exception: it lives with your other moderation tools.

AI feature What it does Where you turn it on
AI Ask (the AI assistant) Answers members' questions from your knowledge base and community posts, with sources Admin → AI Copilot → Settings
AI Actions Rewrites, polishes, summarizes, or translates text, including Enhance with AI in the post composer Admin → AI Copilot → Settings
AI Writing Completion Continues writing from where the author left off in the rich-text editor Admin → AI Copilot → Settings
AI Course Outline Drafts course outlines and quiz questions for course creators Admin → AI Copilot → Settings
AI moderation Checks posts and replies and flags or hides harmful content Admin → Settings → Content Safety

The community AI assistant (AI Ask)

The community AI assistant is an AI chatbot, sometimes called Ask AI or AI Copilot, that answers members' questions from your own content. Members open it from AI Assistant in the community's navigation, on the web and in the Mateflow app's side menu. Each answer lists its Sources, so members can open the original post or page.

The AI assistant can answer from two kinds of content:

You can rename the assistant, give it an avatar and a greeting, and add starter prompts. See Set up your community's AI assistant. To see what members ask and where answers are weak, use Admin → AI Copilot → Hit Logs.

AI writing help in the composer and editor

AI writing help lets members and your team improve text with AI while they write. Two switches under Admin → AI Copilot → Settings control it:

  • AI Actions adds Enhance with AI to the post composer, which can proofread, shorten, improve, expand, rephrase, summarize, or translate a draft. It also powers the AI editing tools in the rich-text editor used for articles. See Improve your writing with AI Enhance.
  • AI Writing Completion lets the rich-text editor continue writing from where the author left off.

AI writing help is available on the web.

AI course outlines and quiz questions

AI Course Outline lets course creators draft a course's sections and lessons with AI outline while the course is still a draft, and create quiz questions from a lesson with Generate with AI. It starts off in every community; turn it on under Admin → AI Copilot → Settings. See Create a course.

AI moderation for posts and replies

AI moderation uses an AI model to check new posts and replies, then hides or flags content that crosses the thresholds you set. You turn it on under Admin → Settings → Content Safety, tune it under Admin → Moderation → Automated Moderation, and review its decisions under Admin → Moderation → AI Activity. See Use AI to moderate content.

Who pays for AI usage

AI usage in your community is covered in one of these ways:

  • Your plan's AI allowance. Your platform plan includes a monthly allowance of AI requests (AI queries) for the whole community. The AI assistant, AI Actions, AI Writing Completion, and AI course outlines all draw from it. It resets each month.
  • A per-member daily limit. Your plan can also limit how many AI requests each member can make per day.
  • On-demand credits. If your plan offers them, the community owner can buy extra AI credits under Admin → Billing → Add-ons. Credits are used after the monthly allowance runs out, and they roll over.
  • Your own AI provider (BYOK). If your community uses its own AI provider key, that provider bills you, and the monthly allowance and on-demand credits don't apply. The per-member daily limit still applies.

AI moderation doesn't use your plan's AI allowance. For details, see Understand AI usage and credits.

Check AI status and usage

Admin → AI Copilot → Overview shows whether AI Copilot is Active or Disabled, your Monthly Quota, which features are on under Feature Status, and the Per-Member Daily Limit. Admin → AI Copilot → Usage shows request and token trends over time.

If your platform plan doesn't include AI Copilot, these pages show AI Copilot isn't included in your plan. See Check plan usage and limits.
