A quiz lesson checks what learners understood with graded questions, such as a knowledge check, test, or assessment at the end of a section. Learners complete the lesson by reaching the pass score. You build quizzes on the web in the course's Curriculum.
Who can do this: Community owners and admins, and the course's space admins. Moderators and instructors can't edit quizzes. · Where: Web (the course's Course Management panel). Learners can take quizzes on the web and in the iOS and Android apps. · Plan: Courses depend on your platform plan. Generate with AI also needs AI features in your plan.
Create a quiz lesson
A quiz is its own lesson type. You create the lesson first, then add its questions.
- Open the course's Course Management panel and click Curriculum.
- In a section, click Add New Lesson.
- In Lesson Type, choose Quiz. You can't change a lesson's type later.
- Enter a Lesson Title and, optionally, a Duration (min).
- Click Create New Lesson.
- Open the new lesson's ⋯ menu and click Edit Lesson to add questions. Until the lesson is saved, the editor shows "Save the lesson first, then add quiz questions."
Like other lessons, a quiz lesson can be Completion Required, a Public Preview, or have a Discussion Board, on the Lesson Settings tab. See Add sections and lessons to a course.
Add questions to a quiz
- Click Add question and type the question.
- Choose its Type: Single choice, Multiple choice, or True / False.
- Fill in the Options. Each question starts with two; click Add option for more. For True / False, type the two answers, such as True and False.
- Click the check mark next to each correct answer (Mark as correct answer). Single choice and True / False questions have one correct answer; multiple choice questions can have several.
- Optionally add an Explanation (optional). Learners see it after they answer.
- Leave Required on if learners must answer the question before they can submit.
- Click Save changes. You'll see Quiz saved.
Every question needs text, at least two options, and at least one correct answer, or the quiz won't save.
Set a quiz's pass score and attempts
Above the questions, set:
- Pass score (%): the score learners need to pass, from 0 to 100. It starts at 60. With 0, any score passes.
- Max attempts: how many times a learner can submit. 0 = unlimited.
Draft quiz questions with AI
Generate with AI drafts quiz questions from another lesson in the course, for you to review. It appears only when AI Course Outline is turned on under Admin → AI Copilot → Settings; it starts off in every community.
- Click Generate with AI.
- Under Build questions from, choose the lesson the questions should cover. It lists the course's text and video lessons, and starts with the closest one before this quiz.
- Set the Number of questions, the Difficulty (Easy, Medium, or Hard), the Question types, and the Language (by default, the same as the lesson).
- Click Generate. If the quiz already has questions, choose Append, Replace, or Discard.
- Edit the drafts, then click Save changes. Nothing is saved until you do.
The AI reads a text lesson's body, or a video lesson's subtitle track. If the lesson you picked has no body yet, or a video has no subtitles, you're asked to add them or pick another lesson. A course with no text or video lessons can't use the generator yet. Each generation counts toward your community's AI usage and has its own daily limit per person. See Understand AI usage and credits.
What learners see in a quiz
Learners see the number of questions, the pass score, their best score, and their attempts. They must answer every Required question, then click Submit. The result shows Passed or Not yet passed, their score, which answers were correct, and your explanations.
Passing completes the lesson, so quiz lessons have no Mark as Complete button. Learners can click Retake quiz until they run out of attempts. Course admins and instructors who aren't enrolled can only preview a quiz. See Take a course.
Review quiz results or remove a quiz
- Results: in the lesson editor, click View results. Quiz Results lists each student's attempts and scores, plus Per-question accuracy.
- Remove: click Remove quiz and confirm. This deletes all its questions; student attempts are kept. To delete the lesson itself, use Remove in the lesson's ⋯ menu.
