Set the default language of your community's interface and the time zone your community runs on. Both settings are in the Language & Region section of your general settings (previously a separate Localization page).
Who can do this: Owners and admins. Members choose their own display language. · Where: Web (admin console). Members switch languages on the web and in the Mateflow app. · Plan: Language and region settings aren't limited by plan.
Set the default language and time zone
- Go to Admin → Settings → General and scroll to Language & Region.
- Choose a Default language. Mateflow's interface is available in English, Español, Français, Deutsch, Português (Brasil), 日本語, 한국어, and 中文.
- Choose a Default timezone from the list, for example America/New_York. Offsets such as GMT+8 are no longer accepted, so pick a named time zone.
- Click Save Changes.
What the default language changes
The default language sets the language of Mateflow's own text: menus, buttons, labels, and system messages. Members who haven't chosen a language, and visitors who aren't signed in, see your community in this language.
It doesn't translate what people write. Posts, comments, space names, and your community's name and description stay exactly as written. There's no setting to limit which languages members can choose. Every supported language is always available to them.
What the default time zone changes
The default time zone sets where your community's day starts and ends. It's used for:
- Daily points: members' daily points limits reset at midnight in this time zone.
- Login streaks: whether a sign-in counts as today or yesterday.
- Free-trial emails: how dates are written in them.
Changing the time zone makes the current day's points window longer or shorter once.
The default time zone doesn't change anything else. Members still see times in their own time zone: post times and event times are shown in each person's device time zone, and an event also shows the host's time zone when it's different. Events and plan usage limits don't use it, and the Community Digest has its own Time zone setting for its send time.
How members choose their display language
Members can override your default at any time:
- Web: click the avatar, then Appearance (or go to Settings → Appearance). Under Language, choose a Display Language, or choose Follow community to use your default. The choice is saved to their account, so it follows them to other browsers and devices.
- App: open Settings and privacy → Appearance → Language, then choose Match community or a language.
If you change the default language later, members who picked their own language keep it.
