Review member verification requests

Members & access · 4 min read

Members can apply for the verified badge, a checkmark next to their name that tells your community the account really is who it says. You review each application in the admin console and approve or reject it. You can also give or remove the badge yourself. The verified badge (also called a verification badge, blue check, or verified account) is not the same as email verification.

Who can do this: Community owners and admins. Moderators can't see verification requests. · Where: Web (Admin → Members → Verification Requests). Members apply on the web and in the iOS and Android apps. · Plan: Available on every platform plan.

How members apply for the verified badge

Members apply from Settings → Verification on the web. In the app, they open the menu (☰), tap Settings and privacy, then Apply for verification.

Before they can apply, the page checks four Requirements: Profile photo uploaded, Display name and bio filled in, Email address verified, and an account that's old enough (the page shows the required number of days). The applicant can then explain Why should your account be verified? and add up to five Supporting links, such as a personal site or social profile, and click Submit application. Their page then shows Application under review.

Review a verification application

  1. Go to Admin → Members → Verification Requests. The menu item shows how many applications are waiting.
  2. The list opens on Pending. Use the status filter to see All, Approved, or Rejected applications.
  3. Click Review on an application. Verification application shows the applicant, when they joined, the Applicant's note, and the Evidence links. Use the link icon on the row to open the member's details.
  4. Optionally write a Message to the applicant. It's required if you reject.
  5. Click Approve or Reject.

The message is shown to the applicant: when you reject, it's the reason they read. Keep internal remarks in member notes instead.

What happens after you approve or reject an application

  • Approve: the member gets the verified badge right away, and it appears next to their name across the community. Their Verification page says Your account is verified.
  • Reject: the member's page shows Application not approved (in the app, Application declined) with your message. They can apply again after 30 days; the page counts down the days left.

If another admin decided first, you see "This application was already reviewed by another admin." and the list refreshes. Decided applications stay in the list; click View to see the decision and the Reviewer's message.

Who can review whose application

The same rules apply to reviewing an application and to changing a badge directly:

  • Owners can review any application, including their own, except the community creator's.
  • Only the community creator can review the creator's application or change the creator's badge.
  • Admins can't review their own application, or another admin's or owner's.

If a rule stops you, Mateflow explains why, for example "You can't change your own verification status.", and the application stays Pending for someone who can review it.

Give or remove the verified badge without an application

  1. Go to Admin → Members → All Members and open the member's ⋯ menu, or open the member's details page.
  2. Click Verify Member. For a member who's already verified, the item is Verify Status.
  3. In Account Verification, enter the Reason for this action. It's required, up to 500 characters, visible only to admins, and recorded in the admin audit log.
  4. Click Confirm Verification to grant the badge, or Confirm Revoke to remove it.

Granting the badge approves the member's pending application, if they have one. Removing the badge declines a pending application, and the member can't apply again for 30 days.

To find verified members, use the Verification filter (Verified or Not verified) in All Members.

Verified badge vs email verification

Email verification confirms that a member owns their email address. You require it with Require Email Verification in Admin → Settings → Security. The verified badge is separate: only owners and admins grant it, by approving an application or directly. A verified email address is one of the requirements for applying.
