Independent creators have more ways than ever to turn a community into a business. On MateFlow, the most successful operators combine two or three of these models rather than betting everything on one. This is the menu of options — for the step-by-step on setting up recurring memberships, see Membership monetization.
The revenue models MateFlow supports
1. Recurring memberships
The predictable base. You create member tiers (for example Supporter, Pro, VIP) and bind a paid subscription plan to each one. Subscribers pay monthly or annually and are automatically moved onto that tier, which unlocks whatever spaces the tier grants. When they cancel, access rolls back on its own — you never manage it by hand.
2. Paid site access
Instead of upgrading existing members, you can gate the front door. A site-access plan requires visitors to subscribe before they can even create an account — a clean fit for premium, invite-worthy communities where the whole experience is paid.
3. Premium and gated spaces
Spaces are where conversation happens, and each one can be locked behind payment. A space can require a subscription, a one-time buyout purchase, or either. Tiers control access at three levels — view, participate, and exclusive — so you can let free members peek into a premium room while reserving posting for paying ones.
4. Paid courses
Courses can be free, sold as a one-time purchase, or bundled into a membership. Put a flagship course inside your top tier to make it the obvious upgrade, or sell it standalone to people who only want the curriculum.
5. Events, workshops, and perks
Live events, office hours, and workshops make a paid tier feel worth it. Package them as benefits of a tier so recurring members get ongoing access to the calendar rather than paying per session.
6. Sponsorships and partnerships
Once you have an engaged audience, sponsorships and partnerships layer on top of subscription revenue — no platform plumbing required, just reach and a story sponsors want to be part of.

What MateFlow takes
Payments run through your own connected Stripe account, so you own the customer relationship and the payouts. MateFlow's platform transaction fee starts at 3% and drops toward 0% as you scale — the more you earn, the smaller the cut. Standard Stripe processing fees apply on top. Your Monetization Overview tracks revenue, subscribers, churn, and lifetime value so you can see which model is actually pulling its weight.
