Your community should look like your brand, not a template. MateFlow lets you replace every visible logo, tune colors for both light and dark mode, and serve the whole thing from your own domain โ so members never feel like they left your world. This guide covers branding assets, themes, and connecting a custom domain.
Logos, favicon, and social image
Open Admin → Appearance → Branding. Start with the header logo mode, which controls how your brand appears in the top navigation:
- Wordmark โ your full horizontal logo (with a Small / Medium / Large size control).
- Icon + name โ a square icon beside your community name.
- Icon โ just the square mark.
Then upload your assets. Because MateFlow supports light and dark interfaces, most slots come in a matched pair:
- Primary logos โ a light and a dark version so your logo stays legible on either background. No logo yet? Use Generate from text to create one from your community name.
- App icons โ a square logo (light and dark) used where a compact mark is needed, plus a favicon (the little browser-tab icon; accepts .ico, PNG, or WebP).
- Open Graph image โ the preview image shown when your community is shared on social media and in chat apps. A strong OG image meaningfully lifts click-throughs.
- Auth background โ an optional image behind your sign-in and sign-up screens.
A live preview panel shows how each asset looks before you save, and MateFlow warns you if you try to leave with unsaved changes.
Theme colors and dark mode
Under Admin → Appearance → Themes you shape the palette. Start from a preset or create your own theme, then edit the core colors โ primary, accent, secondary, and border. Crucially, you set these separately for Light and Dark mode using the in-editor toggle, with a live preview for each. When a theme looks right, publish it to make it active; you can also clone a theme, review its history, or set a dedicated App theme for mobile. A separate default-appearance setting lets you decide whether members see Light, Dark, or follow their System preference by default.
Connecting a custom domain
Every community gets a free MateFlow subdomain, and paid plans can connect a domain you own. Both live under Admin → Settings → General.
Your subdomain
Edit your subdomain (for example your-name.mateflow.com), check availability in real time, and save. Note that subdomain changes have a cooldown period, so pick one you'll keep.
A domain you own
- Choose Connect and enter your domain (an apex like community.com or a subdomain like community.example.com).
- MateFlow shows the exact DNS record to add at your registrar โ a record type, host, and value, each with a one-click copy button. For an apex domain, most providers need an ALIAS/ANAME instead of a CNAME, and MateFlow flags this for you.
- Add the record in your DNS provider, then return and select Verify.
- MateFlow provisions HTTPS automatically and shows live progress (verifying DNS, then provisioning the SSL certificate) until the domain reads Active.
| Option | Looks like | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Subdomain | you.mateflow.com | Every plan, free |
| Custom domain | community.yourbrand.com | Paid plans |
Custom domains also carry a change cooldown, and removing a domain doesn't reset that timer โ so connect the domain you intend to keep.
