Cohort-based course
A cohort-based course (CBC) is an online course where a group of learners progresses through the material together on a fixed schedule, usually with live sessions.
A cohort-based course flips the self-paced video course model: instead of learning alone whenever, a group starts together on a set date and moves through the curriculum in sync, typically with live sessions, discussion, and accountability.
The community is the product. Peer interaction, deadlines, and a shared journey drive far higher completion rates than self-paced courses, which is why cohort-based courses command premium pricing.
Running one well needs a few things working together: a learning surface for lessons, a community space for the cohort to interact, events for live sessions, and progress tracking — which is why creators often run cohorts inside a community platform rather than a standalone course tool.
