Community monetization
Community monetization is the set of models — memberships, tiered access, courses, events, sponsorships, and services — used to turn an engaged community into revenue.
Community monetization is how a community becomes a business. The common models are recurring memberships, tiered (freemium) access, cohort-based courses, paid events and workshops, sponsorships, premium spaces, and high-touch services like coaching.
Most successful operators don't pick just one. They start with the model that best matches where members already are — often a paid membership — prove it, then layer a second, such as courses or events, on top.
Two principles keep monetization healthy: grandfather existing members when prices change, and price against the outcome members get rather than a feature count. The platform you choose also matters, because its transaction fees come straight off the top of every sale.
